The Protocol Department is charged with the responsibility of ensuring diplomatic courtesy, protocol, and etiquette in the National Assembly’s interactions with foreign dignitaries, parliamentary delegations, and other stakeholders.

The department handles all consular matters in the National Assembly including; liaison with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on requests for Note Verbale, facilitation of visa applications and handling of requests for Diplomatic Passport for Members of the National Assembly. It also performs ceremonial functions during important visit to the National Assembly as well as providing protocol duties at airports and during Conferences.

Protocol

The department is divided into four divisions, namely:

Courtesy Visits and Audiences Division
  1. Arranging visits by organizations, schools, international bodies and officials to the National Assembly and its Principal Officers;
  2. The management of Appointment Register of the Principal Officers of the National Assembly;
  3. Arranging venues for meetings of diplomatic visitors and foreign parliamentarians to Presiding Officers of the National Assembly;
  4. Liaising with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or relevant Ministries for briefs;
  5. Excursion visits to the National Assembly by individuals and corporate bodies; and
  6. Any other tasks that the Director may assign.
Reception, Conferences and Seminars Division

This Division is involved in –

  1. Arranging for meetings, conferences and seminars to be hosted by the National
  2. Plans and execute cocktails, luncheons and dinners for very important visitors to the National Assembly.
  3. Arrange venue and allot seats at conferences and meetings;
  4. Procuring tickets for National Assembly members and staff traveling within or outside the country; and
  5. Any other tasks that the Director of Protocol may assign.
Immigration/Airport Services and Passport Processing Division

This Division is saddled with the responsibility of:

  1. Processing of Passports for the National Assembly Members, Staffs and their families;
  2. Airport Protocols arrangements (Reception and Check-in services);
  3. Any other ancillary assignments as the Director of Protocol may
Visa Processing/Consular Services Division

These functions involve all consular matters regarding procurement of travelling documents and processing visa applications for National Assembly, staff and family members which includes:

  1. Visa processing at the various Embassies;
  2. Processing of Note-Verbal and other requests at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and
  3. Any other task that the Director of Protocol may assign.
