NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

Secretary's Message

Dr. Fortune Ihua

Welcome

To the first website dedicated to the work of the Directorate of Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Protocol of the National Assembly of Nigeria.

My name is Dr. Fortune Ihua-Maduenyi, the Secretary of the Directorate, overseeing the affairs of the day-to-day administration of the Directorate with a mandate to promote parliamentary best practices in our International programmes. This website is a donation from the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Government in conjunction with its Peace and Human Rights Division, with the support of the Swiss Parliament and technical expertise of the Policy and Legal Advocacy Center, here in Abuja.

The Directorate existed for many years as a Division under the Office of the Clerk to the National Assembly, serving as a clearing house for International Parliamentary engagements on behalf of Legislators and Parliamentary Staff. From 1999 to date, it has served as an anchor for democracy programs, capacity-building initiatives, and thematic workshops aimed at strengthening democracy and good governance.

Through this platform, users will have access to reports of parliamentary engagements, visits by foreign delegations, international conferences, protocol resources, institutional updates, and other relevant materials that promote transparency, institutional memory, and public understanding of parliamentary diplomacy in Nigeria.

This website also reflects the National Assembly’s commitment to professionalism, openness, and global engagement. It is designed not only as an information portal, but also as a resource for Members of Parliament, legislative staff, researchers, diplomats, development partners, and members of the public interested in the National Assembly’s international parliamentary activities. With the assistance of IT experts at PLAC, you will understand our work at a glance, peruse our reports, and, with the touch of a button, access relevant resources curated for anyone interested in our work supporting the National Assembly.

We invite you to explore the platform and learn more about the National Assembly’s growing role in parliamentary diplomacy and international legislative engagement

Thank You
